Stephen Clegnet Botha was born in Johannesburg, South Africa, in September 1894, and enlisted in the Royal Air Force in June 1918, his service record noting that he was ‘locally appointed to a commission whilst serving in the Middle East’. Duly gaining entitlement to the B.W.M. & Victory Medals for his service in that theatre of war, he did not fully qualify as a pilot before the end of hostilities; sold with copied service record.
