Although superficially the coinage of the new reign appears to be a continuation of that of David II, most of the letter punches were replaced during the changeover. This variety, the only die with double crosslets after dns, comes close to the start of the reign, before the opening of the Perth mint. See ‘A 14th Century Hoard of Scottish Groats from Balleny Townland, Co. Down’ (mentioned above) where Stewart mentions extremely rare David II and Robert II Groats with two crosses after dns (p.98).
