Margaret Sutherland was awarded the M.B.E. whilst serving in the Military Secretary’s Department of the War Office and Ministry of Defence. The Scotsman newspaper of 25 July 1952 further notes that she was a resident of Caithness and received her decoration from the hand of the Queen at an investiture held in the gold State ballroom of Buckingham Palace.
