William Robert Deakin (1862-1943), fruit canner and jam manufacturer, Eclipse Works, Wigan, from 1891. Deakin’s business rapidly expanded and he diversified into fruit farming, acquiring the 240-acre Hampton Park estate in the Vale of Evesham. Pickers of the fruit were paid in tokens and the fruit sent by train from Evesham to Wigan. Sold with extensive background detail; see also Lot 142
