The Blandford Bank was originally founded by John Bastard, William Sollers and John Dansey in the late 1780s. The assets of the business were acquired by William Coventry Oak, mayor of Blandford in 1850 and 1857, and Charles Hastings Snow (b. 1824), in 1849, but the bank failed in 1858 and caused the resignation of Oak from his second term as mayor
