The Irish Free State issued its first currency in 1928 but Bank of Ireland notes continued to circulate in the Republic from 1929 as part of the consolidated issue of ploughman notes. As the largest bank in the country it had the largest part of this new issue and was the only bank to issue the full series in denominations from £1 ro £100 (see lots 2621-2741)
