‘On 15 January 1921, the schooner Donald T, of Lunenburg, Nova Scotia, was abandoned in the North Atlantic Ocean. After two to four hours work the shipwrecked crew of six were safely transferred to the steamship Stonewall, of New York. Considerable risk was incurred owing to the heavy seas and the boat being smashed against the ship’s side and swamped.’ (ref. The Sea Gallantry Medal, by R. J. Scarlett).

Seven S.G.M. (Foreign Service) in silver were awarded for this rescue. The medal to Brown was presented to him by the Consul General of Philadelphia, on 21 December 1923.
