Awarded to Fire Escape Conductor No. 46 George Hardway, for a rescue at the Phoenix Music Hall, Ratcliff. According to The Times of 19 January 1864, the fire occurred on 17 February 1863 and four lives were saved (Case No. 7,761). Hardway is also mentioned in the rescue of several people at 4 Stepney Causeway, Ratcliff on 2 September 1861. The rescue of several children resulted in the award of a medal to James Burgess, aged 12 years (Case No. 6,667). (Ref. Saved from the Flames, by Roger Willoughby & John Wilson).
