John Glazbrook (’Glaybrook’ on medal) was born in Greenwich, Kent on 27 December 1844. He entered the Royal Navy in 1866 as a Blacksmith’s Mate. Appointed an Engine Room Artificer in January 1873 and Chief Engine Room Artificer in October 1877. Served as such on Alexandra, February-November 1882, seeing action at the bombardment of Alexandria, 11 July 1882. Awarded a Royal Navy L.S. & G.C. medal in 1878 when on Plover. Pensioned ashore on 5 October 1887.
