George Evans was born in Pembroke, Wales on 26 April 1853. A Fitter by trade, he entered the Royal Navy as an Acting Engine Room Artificer on 26 November 1877 and was confirmed in that rank in September 1879 and advanced to C.E.R.A. in May 1890 when on Sphinx. Served on Forte, November 1895-October 1897, serving in the Benin Expedition of February-August 1897. Pensioned on 20 November 1897.
