Walter Harry Skelton was born in Torpoint, Cornwall on 25 January 1891. He entered the Royal Navy from school, being appointed a Boy Artificer on 6 August 1906 and becoming an Engine Room Artificer 5th Class in July 1910. Skelton, serving as an E.R.A. 2nd Class was killed when his ship, the Seagull - a gunboat converted to a minesweeper, was sunk in collision with the S.S. Corrib in the Clyde on 30 September 1918. He was the son of Edmund Harry and Jessie Skelton of 3 Harbour View, Torpoint, Cornwall.
