Stanley Jarvis Lloyd was born in Camberwell, London on 23 April 1876. A Fitter & Turner by occupation, he entered the Royal Navy as an Engine Room Artificer 4th Class on 14 January 1898 and was confirmed in his rank in September 1899. He attained the rank of C.E.R.A. 1st Class in June 1912 when serving on the destroyer Cockatrice. For most of the Great War he served aboard the same vessel. He was pensioned ashore on 20 March 1920.
