Arthur William Geaton was born in Devonport on 18 May 1892. He entered the Royal Navy from school as a Boy Artificer on 7 August 1908. Appointed an Engine Room Artificer 5th Class in January 1913 on Indus. Served on the dreadnought battleship Conqueror, February 1913-May 1918, being advanced to E.R.A. 4th Class in January 1915 and E.R.A. 3rd Class in January 1917 and seeing action at the battle of Jutland. Appointed an E.R.A. 2nd Class in December 1920 when at Vivid II; awarded the Royal Navy L.S. & G.C. plus a gratuity of £20 in August 1925 when again at Vivid II. Served on the battlecruiser Hood, December 1925-September 1926, being advanced to E.R.A. 1st Class in January 1926 and Acting C.E.R.A. 2nd Class in July 1926. Confirmed in that rank in July 1927.
With original parchment ‘Certificate for Wounds and Hurts’, for an injury suffered whilst a Boy Artificer on Indus, 15 December 1910.
