Richard John Keating was born in Tipperary on 18 July 1889 and entered the Royal Navy in September 1914. During the war he served on Acasta, May 1915-June 1916; Nizam, July 1916-February 1919. In the Acasta he served at the battle of Jutland and was complimented for his good services during the action. Attained the rank of Engine Room Artificer 1st Class in 1927. Royal Navy L.S. & G.C. awarded in November 1929.
