William John Young was born in Fratton, Portsmouth on 18 May 1871. He entered into the Royal Navy as an Acting Engine Room Artificer 4th Class on 27 February 1895. Serving on Scout, October 1895-December 1898, seeing service in the Sudan and being appointed to E.R.A. 4th Class in July 1896 and E.R.A. 3rd Class in February 1898. Attained the rank of E.R.A. 1st Class in February 1907. Served on Euryalus, September 1907-December 1909 - the ship providing men for the rescue operations following the Messina Earthquake. Awarded the Royal Navy L.S. & G.C. in 1910 when at Fisgard. Was based at Dolphin, December 1913-July 1916. Young died of myocarditis at Haslar Hospital on 27 July 1916. With copied service papers.
