Matthew Hendry was born in Liverpool on 12 Janaury 1867. Entering the Royal Navy in September 1894, he attained the rank of Chief Engine Room Artificer in December 1908. Served on Euryalus during the rescue operations following the earthquake at Messina, 1908. Awarded the L.S. & G.C. in 1908. Although invalided in June 1912, he returned to the service in August 1914 and based at Vernon, served until invalided once more in May 1917 suffering from chronic rheumatism.

Alfred Jack Nicholson was born in Landport, Hampshire on 15 January 1869. Entering the Royal Navy in February 1895, he attained the rank of C.E.R.A. 1st Class in January 1911. Awarded the L.S. & G.C. in 1910. Served on the battleship
Emperor of India, October 1914-June 1915 and at Dalhousie, September 1916-April 1918.

William Henry McQuillan was born in Stoke. Entered the Royal Navy in November 1895; appointed C.E.R.A. 1st Class in April 1909. Awarded the L.S. & G.C. in 1910 on the armoured cruiser
Suffolk. During the Great War mostly served at Wallington (Immingham).
