William Lewington was born in Lambeth, London in November 1854 and entered the Royal Navy as a Boy 2nd Class in November 1872. An Able Seaman by the time of his service in H.M.S. Penelope (October 1880 to November 1882), he was discharged ashore ‘time expired’ in the latter month; sold with a file of research, including copied service record.
