Three: Carpenter’s Mate H. A. Fisk, Royal Navy

Egypt and Sudan 1882-89, dated reverse, 1 clasp, Alexandria 11th July (Shipwt., H.M.S. Penelope); Royal Navy L.S. & G.C., V.R., narrow suspesnion (Carp. Mate., H.M.S. Northampton); Khedive’s Star, 1882, the reverse with traces of erasure but original impressed inscription, ‘Ship Wt. Fisk’, and lacking usual suspension bar in the place of which is attached by the ring a gilt Jubilee 1887 commemorative cross, with central portrait of Queen Victoria, the first with bent clasp backstrap and possible official correction to rate, the second with defective suspension claw, contact marks and edge bruising, otherwise good fine (3) £200-250

Henry Albert Fisk was born in Great Yarmouth in February 1858 and entered the Royal Navy as a Shipwright in January 1880, in which capacity he served in H.M.S. Penelope (February 1880 to February 1883), following which he was appointed a Carpenter’s Mate. Awarded his L.S. & G.C. Medal in February 1891, he was pensioned ashore in January 1900, but was retained on the strength of the Royal Fleet Reserve as a Shipwright (Pensioner) until June 1905. Fisk died in Gillingham, Kent in January 1928; sold with a file of research, including copied service record and birth & death certificates.
