Lance-Corporal Reginald William Royds Birch was an indigo planter from Purneah. He served in ‘B’ Company, No.2 Section, Lumsden’s Horse. He became ill with enteric fever and was hospitalized in Johannesburg then invalided to England. He subsequently returned to India and served in the Bihar Light Horse.
