Henry Poyntz Swaine was born on 31 March 1890; educated at Marlborough College; and resided at Morris Lodge, Farnham, Surrey. He joined the Royal Irish Rifles as a Second Lieutenant on 5 October 1910. He was killed in action in France and Flanders on 15 September 1914 whilst serving with the 2nd Battalion, Royal Irish Rifles, and is commemorated on La Ferte-Sous-Jouarre Memorial, Seine-et-Marne, France.
