Bernard John McCutcheon, a native of Westcliff-on-Sea, Essex, was born in 1898. He originally enlisted into the 14th London Regiment, before being commissioned into the R.F.C. on 10 October 1917. He was killed in action on 8 August 1918, during the Battle of Amiens, whilst flying on a low patrol in a Bristol F2b, when his aircraft was seen to dive over Foucaucourt, east of the British lines. His Observer, 2nd Lieutenant V. S. Gray was also killed. They have no known grave and are commemorated on the Arras Flying Services Memorial, France.
