Frank Stanley Barnes was the son of Stanley J. Barnes and of Violet A. Barnes, and husband of Marjorie S. Barnes (nee Wood), of Cheme, Surrey. Prior to the War he worked for several years in the Wandsworth Common office of his father’s estate agency. He joined the Territorials in January 1939 and took part in the evacuation from Dunkirk. As a mine clearance specialist, he was killed in action on 8 November 1942, shortly after the battle of El Alamein, and is buried in El Alamein War Cemetery.
