Francis Charles Cole was the son of Francis Simcoe and Phyllis Evelyn Cole, of Starcross, Devon. He was killed when flying a Whitley V bomber of 102 Squadron on a mission against Kiel on the night of 7th/8th April 1941. Wing Commander Cole and his four crew members are all commemorated by name on the Runnymede Memorial. See also Lot 1239 for related family medals.
