Robert Mills Inskip entered the Royal Navy as an Instructor in December 1836, ‘although over the prescribed age’, and was appointed a Naval Chaplain in June 1853, on the eve of his participation in the Baltic operations aboard H.M.S. Magicienne. Returning to the U.K. in early 1855 with an appointment as Chaplain of the Victory, Inskip was subsequently awarded the Civil C.B. for his services as Chief Naval Instructor of the training ship Britannia (London Gazette 2 June 1859). He was placed on the Retired List in July 1871 and died at Plymouth in December 1890.
