M.C. London Gazette 22 March 1918:

‘For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty. He was in charge of his company while they were working in the open at night. The enemy opened an intense barrage on their position, causing some casualties. He promptly got his company under cover, and personally superintended the removal of the wounded under heavy fire. Later, he completed the work. He showed the greatest initiative and resource in a difficult position.’

Sydney Glazebrook Blow, a native of Newport and by profession a coal exporter, first went to France as a Private in the 1st Battalion, Monmouthshire Regiment in mid-February 1915. Commissioned as a 2nd Lieutenant in September 1915, he was advanced to Lieutenant in July 1917, and, as far as is known, remained on active service with the 1st Battalion for the duration of the War. He resigned his commission in June 1921.
