John Owens was born in Hamilton, Lanarkshire and enlisted at Lochgelly, Fifeshire. Serving with the 1st Battalion Royal Highlanders (Black Watch), he entered the France/Flanders theatre of war on 11 September 1914. He died of wounds on 12 October 1914 and was buried in the St. Nazaire (Toutes-Aides) Cemetery. Entitled to clasp. With copied m.i.c. and casualty details.
