Celtic Coins from the Collection of the late Michael J. Grover

Michael John Grover

The coins in the following 55 lots are from the collection of the late Michael John Grover (22 April 1932-15 March 1999), of Leatherhead, Surrey. Younger brother of the dealer Brian Grover, Michael began collecting almost 40 years ago. He joined the Surrey Archaeological Society in 7976 and was actively acquiring coins until shortly before his death. His specialist series were British Celtic (his collection of this material is being sold by DNW on Monday, September 29th) and the English series down to 1154. Quality was always uppermost in his mind, as a glance at the following few pages will attest. Worthy of particular note are a superb Sword-type penny of William I (lot 3436), an Aethelred II Benediction Hand penny of Norwich (lot 3422) and a late Portrait penny of Aetherwulf (lot 3473).
