Captain William Ralph Wilson, 7th Battalion, Argyll & Sutherland Highlanders
1897 pattern Infantry officer’s Presentation sword, blade 83cm retailed by Boyton & Co.,Clerkenwell, London, etched with GVR cypher, thistles &c. within foliage, regulation plated steel guard, with GVR cypher, additionally engraved ‘Presented to Captain W. Wilson by No. 1 (S) Coy. 7th A.& S. Highrs. As a token of esteem, North Camp Station 19 April 1916’, fish-skin covered grip bound with silver wire, leather covered field service scabbard with steel chape and ball finial, minor staining and wear £250-300

William Ralph Wilson was born in May 1871, the eldest son of E. L. Wilson of Hill Park, Bannockburn. Educated at Fettes College, Edinburgh, he was a manufacturer in civilian life. He served in France and Italy with the Argyll & Sutherland Highlanders. The regimental history notes he was MID, and wounded on 24 May 1915. He died on 20 October 1930.
