A good Guelphic Medal group of four to Colour-Sergeant Christian Weiss, 2nd Light Battalion, King’s German Legion, a defender of La Haye Sainte at Waterloo

Guelphic Medal for Bravery 1815 (Feldwebel Christian Weiss, vom Jager Garde Bat.); Military General Service 1793-1814, 6 clasps, Albuhera, Salamanca, Vittoria, St Sebastian, Nivelle, Nive (Christn. Weiss, Color Serjt. 2nd Lt. Bn. K.G.L.); Waterloo 1815 (Colr. Ser. Christ. Weiss, 2nd Light Batt. K.G.L.) fitted with replacement silver bar suspension similar to the first; Hannoverian Medal for Volunteers of the K.G.L. 1814, contact marks, otherwise nearly very fine and better (4) £5000-6000

Awarded the Guelphic Medal in the 1818 List:

‘At Vittoria, he hurried with his shako held high on his rifle, encouraging the men forward in the violent fire, when the company stormed through the Zadora. On 28th February 1814, he was severely wounded before Bayonne; he was again in action on 14th April with his wounds not yet healed, disregarding the advice of his Company Commander. At Waterloo he rescued his wounded company commander Frederick Kessler, at great danger of being taken prisoner.’ (Ref Von Wissel p67)

At Waterloo Colour-Sergeant Weiss was present at the Defence of La Haye Sainte, where Lieutenant Kessler was wounded.
