Private Charles Millson was attached to Ross’s Camel Corps during the Central India campaign. This ad-hoc unit was comprised of some 200 Sikhs and four officers and 100 men of the 2nd and 3rd Battalions of the Rifle Brigade, all under the command of Major John Ross, of the 3rd Battalion. Millson did not qualify for the Commassie clasp to his Ashantee medal having been ‘Sent back sick from Essidwdu on 21 January 1874.’
