Medals, Jamaica, High Court of Vice Admiralty, c. 1779, seal of the Vice Admiralty Court, a uniface bronzed electrotype, ship in full sail, details in legend around, 65mm. Good very fine £120-150

In the Caribbean and North America, Vice-Admiralty Courts were well established by the second half of the seventeenth century, owing their emergence and rapid growth to ‘prize and piracy’. The National Maritime Museum has a plaster impression of what is probably this seal
