Frederick Wilhelm Miller was born near Koblentz, Germany. A Musician by occupation, he attested for the 10th Hussars at London on 21 November 1887, aged 15 years, 3 months. He served in South Africa, November 1899-March 1901 and was awarded the Queen’s medal with clasps for Relief of Kimberley, Paardeberg, Driefontein, Johannesburg, Diamond Hill, Wittebergen and South Africa 1901. Served in India, October 1902-October 1908. Awarded the L.S. & G.C. Medal with gratuity by A.O. 90 of 1906. Appointed Serjeant in September 1900; Serjeant Trumpeter in January 1901 and Squadron Quartermaster Serjeant in October 1903. Discharged at Gosport on 20 November 1908 having completed his second period of engagement.
