David Wilson was born in Crosby, Lancashire. He enlisted into the South Lancashire Regiment at Liverpool on 21 September 1892, aged 20 years, 9 months. With the regiment he served in Egypt, February 1894-February 1895 and India, February 1895-March 1899. Transferred to the Army Reserve in March 1899, he was recalled to the Colours in June and served in South Africa, November 1899-November 1901. Wilson was severely wounded at Itala, 26 September 1901. He was discharged as medically unfit on 19 April 1902. With copied service papers.
