George Woolner was born in Chatham, Kent. A Farmer by occupation, he attested for short service with the Royal Artillery at London on 2 October 1900, aged 35 years, 3 months. He had previously served with the 6th Dragoon Guards, July 1885-July 1897. Posted as a Shoeing-Smith to the 88th Battery R.F.A., he served on South Africa, October 1900-November 1901. With copied (Boer War) service papers and roll extracts. Also awarded the clasp, ‘South Africa 1901’.
