Arthur John Kendall was born in Ashby-de-la-Zouch, Leicestershire. A Valet by occupation and a former member of the 2nd Life Guards (discharged by purchase), he attested for short service with the Imperial Yeomanry at Watford on 19 January 1900, aged 28 years, 10 months. He served with the 42nd (Hertfordshire) Company, 12th Battalion Imperial Yeomanry in South Africa, March-July 1900. He was discharged on 19 October 1900 being found medically unfit, suffering from thrombosis following an attack of enteric fever. With copied service papers, service roll and census papers. Coronation Medal not confirmed.
