Charles II (1649-1685), First coinage, 4 Merks, 1664, type I, wide thistle to left of head, 26.84g/12h (D 1; M 1; SCBI 35 –; B 1; S 5604; KM. 104.1). Adjustment marks both sides, small scratch above head and a tiny flaw in Irish shield, otherwise extremely fine with a superb portrait, light grey tone, very rare, especially in this condition; almost certainly the finest specimen available to commerce £6,000-8,000
