Sir David Baird’s Grant of Arms incorporating the Ensigns of the Turkish Order of the Crescent
Allowing him “to receive and wear the Ensigns of the ORDER of the CRESCENT (of the superior degree) instituted by His Majesty’s Ally the Grand Signior in commemoration of the important Services rendered to the Sublime Porte by the glorious Achievements of the British Arms in Egypt” and allowing him to augment the family arms with a star and crescent, and to take the additional crest of “A MARMELOUK MOUNTED ON A HORSE AND HOLDING IN HIS DEXTER HAND A SCYMETAR ALL PROPER”, vellum, illuminated with the augmented arms, duty stamps, signed by Isaac Heard, Garter, and George Harrison, Clarenceux, their two pendant seals in original skippets, in the original fitted calf case, tooled in gilt with the King’s cipher, 20.5ins. x 19.75ins., 25 September 1804 £800-1200
