Second Lieutenant Eugene O’Sullivan was commissioned from the ranks on 23 October 1917. Sold with some typewritten biographical notes supplied by recipients step sister, stating: ‘He had taken part in the Battles of Guillemont and Guinchy and had been wounded in the leg. He died in 1924 at the age of 27 in Chicago, having gone to the U.S.A. when he was demobbed and when working in a factory, a piece of machinery fell on his head and killed him.’
