William Davey was born at Halstead, Essex, and enlisted into the Royal Artillery at Woolwich in July 1853. He was posted to the 2nd Company, 12th Battalion, Siege Train, R.A., and arrived in the Crimea in September 1854. He took part in the battle of the Alma, investment and first bombardment of Sebastopol, and the battle of Inkermann, where the 2/12th Battalion were in the Trenches of the Left Attack. He died of disease, probably Cholera, in December 1854.
