George Frederick Wilson was born in January 1851, and was appointed Lieutenant, Royal Engineers, in August 1871. He served in the Nile expedition as Superintendent of Works of the Soudan Military Railway and was mentioned in Lord Wolseley’s despatches London Gazette 25 August 1885. He subsequently served in India, where he became Colonel, and retired in January 1908. He died in London on 18 June 1911.
