John Michael Lyons served in France, November 1916-November 1918. Awarded the Military Cross London Gazette 25 April 1918: ‘For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty. He extinguished a quantity of ammunition which had been ignited by shell fire. When withdrawing the guns, one of them left the track and began to sink rapidly. But under heavy shell fire he got it onto supports clear of the plank road, thus enabling other guns to be got away.’ He served with 120 (Amballa) Pack Battery during the operations in Kurdistan.
