M.M., London Gazette, 6 August, 1918.
The following details were extracted from the City of Coventry Roll of the Fallen: On 18 May 1917 he was awarded the Military Medal and Divisional Commanders Parchment for although not being a member of any Lewis Gun Team, he voluntarily took charge of a recovered gun and used it with great effect at an attack on the village of Fresnoy-le-Petit, at times carrying both gun and ammunition single-handed. He was killed in action on 23 March 1918, and is commemorated on the Pozieres Memorial, France.
