Hugh Searle Coppock was born in Cannock Chase, Staffordshire, in 1897, and was the son of Henry Carmock and Isabella Violet Osbourne Coppock. As a family they moved to Westholme, Vancouver Island, Canada in 1910. Hugh Searle Coppock joined the Artists Rifles in December 1915 and was then commissioned into the South Lancashire Regiment. Serving with them in France, Coppock was twice wounded (22 January 1917 and 9 June 1917) and was mentioned in despatches (not confirmed). Serving with the 3rd Battalion attached 2nd Battalion South Lancashire Regiment, he was killed in action on 10 April 1918. Having no known grave, his name is commemorated on the Ploegsteert Memorial and the Duncan Cenotaph, Vancouver Island. Sold with a quantity of copied and original papers and photographs.
