Malik Alam Sher Khan, a Punjabi Musalman from Tiwana, was mentioned in despatches and awarded the I.D.S.M. for services in France with the 18th Lancers. He joined the ranks of the 17th Lancers in 1906 being promoted Jemadar in 1912, Ressaidar 1917, Risaldar 1920. He served in the operations in Waziristan 1921, and was promoted Risaldar Major in 1930, having transferred to the Army Remount Department in 1922. He became Senior Indian Officer in the Department, stationed in the Shahpur Horse Breeding Area, until his retirement in 1938. He was awarded the Order of British India, 2nd class, from April 1932, and 1st class from April 1933.
