I.D.S.M. awarded for gallantry in North Africa 1942: 'Has always commanded his men with great zeal and ability. During a machine gun attack by enemy aircraft on a working party engaged in railway construction near Bir Habata on 28/ 3142, though severely wounded he continued with great courage to do all in his power for the safety of the party of which he was in command.'
