I.D.S.M. (Immediate), London Gazette, 22 March, 1945. 'In EAST MAYU, ARAKAN, on 22 November 1944, in the attack on a strongly held Jap bunker position by C Coy, Havildar Jagar Ram was the Platoon Commander of one of the Platoons. When 50 yards from its objective, the Platoon came under heavy and accurate enemy fire from two well sited L.M.Gs. Two men were killed and six wounded. The Platoon pinned to the ground, and exposed to enemy fire was sustaining casualties. Havildar Jagat Ram with complete disregard to personal safety and under withering fire, rushed forward about 20 yards and crawling up another 20, threw 2 grenades at the bunker position. As the grenades went off he rushed forward shouting the Dogra way cry. The rest of the Platoon taking heart at this outstanding example of leadership and courage, took up the cry and rushed into the attack. The position was captured, the enemy being destroyed to a man. Havildar Jagar Ram then organised consolidation of the captured position, and arranged for the dressing and evacuation of the wounded. Throughout the engagement he showed outstanding leadership, great daring, and courage that was exemplary.'
