I.D.S.M. (Periodical), London Gazette, 6 June ,1944. 'During the campaign Feb-Aug 45, this N.C.O. consistently proved himself to be an outstanding section commander in action. In the advance on Pyawbwe on 8th April this L/Nk's section encountered 20 Japs including one officer. By taking immediate offensive action his section killed 12 including the officer and cut off the escape of the remainder, thus enabling another section to destroy the Japs. Two days later at Pyawbwe this N.C.O’s section, despite stubborn enemy opposition, was the first to penetrate the strongly held Waterworks position, having killed several Japs. On 30th June, in the Nyaunbintha area, his section was in a platoon patrol which was following a large party of Japs. As darkness fell, Sansar Singh's section captured the first Jap straggler and, when the main body was heard some 200 yards away, this N.C.O. volunteered to go by himself and invesrigate. Despite the darkness and the thick jungle country, he discovered and killed a Jap sentry, captured the rear man and obtained valuable information leading to the successful action which the Battalion fought on the following day. Three days later a four-man patrol commanded by this N.C.O. encountered and killed 4 Japs who were hiding in a Basha. During the 'breakthrough battle' L/Nk Sansar Singh again distinguished himself on several occasions. His section killed a further 12 Japs and obtained accurate enemy information and, on one occasion, when our M.M.G. section was being attacked by 20 Japs, he went to the rescue with his section and extricated the M.M.G’s without sustaining any casualties. L/Nk Sansar Singh has over a long period continually shown great leadership, splendid bravery, and devotion to duty of a very high order. His keenness to close with and to kill the enemy, and his personal example have been a magnificent inspiration to his comrades.'
