I.D.S.M. (Immediate award in the field), London Gazette, 22 April, 1943. 'At North of Donbaik, Burma, Night 5/6 Feb. 1943. This N.C.O. was detailed to rake his platoon for a night raid on an enemy position on night 5/6 Feb. 1943. He led his platoon with extreme gallantry and captured the position. The enemy then counter attacked with hand grenades from a hitherto unlocated nearby position. He remained in the captured position however until, when only three of his men were left, he was ordered to retire by his Coy Commander. His action was an example of leadership to all.'
