Lieut. J.A. Whitaker served in the South African war in 1899-1902, and took part in the operations in the Transvaal, east and west of Pretoria (August to 29 November 1900) including the action at Rhenoster Kop; and in the Transvaal (30 November 1900 to 31 May 1902).
