D.C.M., London Gazette, 5 December, 1918. 'For conspicuous gallantry in the capture of hostile trenches, when the success of his party was largely due to his great courage and effective use of the bayonet. The party was held up by bombers, but he rushed forward, killed two and cleared the part of the trench which was giving trouble. Throughout he set a fine example of daring and determination.'

Private A. Lee was a native of Sheffield.
